About Us
Villanova Junior High has a long history on the beautiful shores of Conception Bay. Situated along the historic Manuels River, Villanova opened under its new name, and a new configuration, in it's new building, September 2002. Prior to that time, Villanova Junior High was better known as St. Thomas of Villanova. As St. Thomas of Villanova, the school boasted a long history and at various times served not only as a junior high but also served as a senior high and a primary/elementary building. Throughout its history, the school developed a reputation for providing a quality education to students in what is now referred to as Conception Bay South. At the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year our configuration changed again. We are now a grade 5 to 8 school.
Villanova Junior High is part of the Newfoundland & Labrador Schools which has 262 schools with approximately 68 000 students. We are a grade 5 to grade 8 school with a population of approximately 550 students.
Our Staff and Classes
Our school has a total of 45 educational staff, including 1 teaching and learning assistant and 1 reading specialist, 1 full-time and one half time guidance counsellors, 7 specialist teachers in the areas of music/band, physical education, technology education, home economics, teacher-librarian, 2 administrative positions, as well as 5 student assistants. In addition to staff based at the school, we have access to NLSchools staff including: a speech/language pathologist, educational psychologists, learning disability specialist, visual, hearing, and behavioral itinerants. Our school also has the services of secretarial, maintenance and cafeteria personnel.
